Today was an emotional day. My little boy had some surgery today. Everything turned out terrific! Thank you GOD! ;-) As a parent, anytime your child has to have surgery and be put to sleep, your mind races in a thousand different directions.
I must admit I tricked the little guy about the surgery. I had no option. It took literally 4 adults to hold him down the week before to draw 3 vials of blood. Tell me, would you have told him he was having surgery? Hell no! He never would have gotten out of that car, plus he would have made an awful fuss in the waiting room area carrying on and crying. Quite frankly, being by myself, I couldn't have handled his strength on my own.
Personally I also did not want to have him so anxious as to the "unknown." The day prior to the surgery I called in advance and spoke with the nurses at the hospital. I explained the anxiety my son experienced with "hospitals" in general. (Some bad memories unfortunately he still carries from situations NOT being handled correctly by medical professionals.) It was prearranged to have him slightly sedated before there was any type of interaction with any cords, wires etc. The nurses were lovely talking to him and making him comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a better "guest experience." Let's face it, when you are in the hospital, it is almost as if you are a "guest" and should be treated as one. I always tend to look at things from a hospitality point of view.
When a nurse asked my son why he was at the hospital today, he told her that the doctor was only looking in his ears. He went along beautifully with the whole situation. Again the nurses were fantastic. They had him involved in the process of putting the mask on his own face, he basically put himself to sleep prior to any "traumatic" events happened.
Only upon waking up was he a bit pissed off to find the IV in his arm. I simply told him it was to give him Gatorade and to not pull it out. He was a little cranky and told us his throat was really hurting. He didn't ask why, so I figured I would hold off on telling him his adnoids were removed. I did tell him he no longer had tubes in his ears.
Quick back story, he thought that his adnoids were in his finger. Why tell him any differently at this point!
So much for me NOT going into the particulars of the surgery. I suppose what my message is for parents, telling the whole truth to a young child is really not necessary. You DON'T need to give them all the details and upset them unnecessarily. My little guy was far better off in this situation.
Over the past few months it seems that personally there have been so many health problems absorbing my time and mind. It's pretty hard to concentrate on work, taking care of two children and all the responsibilities that come with that job. It is such a balancing act on a daily basis. Being the owner of a business is also quite a responsibility and creates stress!
The next issue of Our Town is in the works. The next issue will be out in late Spring and also cover Summer. I'm excited about finding the perfect cover to attract our readers. I do have someone in mind to grace the cover with their brilliant art work, it's just a matter of asking him if he is interested!
The editorials are all lined up! There are some wonderful travel features as well as some interesting beauty pieces about the newest spring/summer launches of popular skin products. I've been testing many of these products and have to admit I feel like I look at least 9 years younger!
It's amazing the new innovative treatments out on the market today. What's more the quality of the products, that are being produced, are becoming more affordable and being produced by well known dermatologists across the country.
We will also be talking about various laser, injectables, etc...to help keep your face looking its' very best!
Having a local based magazine is fun as well as exciting! From start to finish I am involved. It is a very time consuming process but one that I truly enjoy. I am very proud to say that I have been in business for over 5 years.
Our Town Miami is a FREE community based publication! I intend to keep it that way, and am confident that my readers will continue to utilize my publication as a trusted resource guide.
I promise a much more intriguing blog. My intention in the beginning was to be anonymous! However this got attached to my email address! So much for that! I am certain I have plenty of stories to entertain.
Goodnight! Hopefully I get to sleep by 3am.
