Seven weeks of splendid weather. Daily walks along the beach in search of sea glass, driftwood and shells. Endless laughs, giggles and sandy days along our barren stretch of paradise.
The children would delight as "new" children would occasionally appear in the distance. We would then have to trek down the beach, pails, shovels, sunscreen and towels. I of course would make friends with the parents. Usually the dads making most of the idle chit-chat, as they would be "watching" the children on the beach play. Typically most thankful to have another adult to talk to instead of actually playing in the sand.
I find it quite funny. I love to get down in the sand and dig right along with the children. It's almost like therapy for me. Wait, the beach is my therapy!!! Next thing you know, the very dad that was chilling in his chair is now also making sand castles too. We all start to reminisce about our own memories and places we have travelled growing up and how we all have come back to this same stretch of beach. You become to have a shared bond.
I've met some lovely friends throughout the years on the beach. Unpretentious, unassuming and quite down to earth. It seems as you're standing there stripped of all fashions that we normally are wearing, to cover who we are or who we are trying to be, you simply become who you really are. Real. I love that about the beach.
We have a lovely friend, I'll call, "T," who brings his long board down each week. I had a spectacular time when he taught me, shaky legs and all, to use the paddle and glide along the water. Crystal clear views as I watch the fish swim by, small and large. Gorgeous reefs, with brilliant colors as the sun reflects off the water and sand below. Also, mind you, I keep a keen eye open for a shark. I still don't know what I would do should one have appeared. Quite certain I would have fallen from fear!
"T," noticing my fear as I would become more brave and begin paddling with more confidence only to turn back, seeing the distance I had covered, he would motion for me to keep going. I would hear him say, "You're doing great!" As he also watched my little ones in the surf for me! It was amazing exercise. He would then go on to teach the children to surf with the long board with the waves coming in preceding low tide. Such fun!
I'm home at the beach. My solitude, peace and sanity. It gives me such pleasure to just stare out at the water. To hear the lull of the waves gently coming to shore. The laughter of the kids as they catch a crab or fish with their nets. Memories in the making with each new day!
I don't particularly like the saying, "Well, all good things must come to an end." I look at it as, there are always new beginnings. There will be next summer!
Today the kids are back in school. Normal day to day turmoil has returned. As much as I try to have everything prepared and ready for the morning, patience is always a must getting two little ones out the door.
During my spare time, as I laugh, I am thinking about writing a book! In fact, I'll name it right now, "Palm Beach Dreamer." I would of course have to have an alias, but the dirt I have would make for some incredible reading! Thinking of the various directions this book could take is quite humorous. Between all the tales I have heard, and the various businesses I've been involved within, there are so many stories to put a twist upon.
Well, of course it would be a work of fiction. I would have to make some of the details a little more interesting...but WOW do I already have quite the story!
There is of course business at hand to attend to first. The publishing business is a very competitive beast. Every few months another wanna be seems to be sneaking into the territory.
Sorry to say one of my projects will have to be put on hold. This economy is too crazy still to take the chance on a larger printing project. Although my idea is a winner, I can't do it alone. It will still be a sparkler in the future.
Can't promise daily posts. For that matter...who really reads this stuff! Signing off for now...Twitter Bug~~
I'm writing books. Fiction. Though not that fiction ;-) http://site.hollyaurkevich.com/CurrentBookProjects.html I hope I see you again!!! Tell your family hi :-) All my best to you, your magazine, and your future books!!!! <3 Holly
